Date Night Ideas - Page 2

12 ●● Check out Austin's Murals while geocaching

Everyone who lives in Austin loves Austin weirdness (and if you don't you are welcome to move elsewhere!)

If you are looking for a night checking out some of Austin's uniqueness, go on this geocaching tour of Austin's downtown murals.

Download the geocaching app on your phone, create a free account on, and then load up the Murals of Austin geocache link

You'll travel all over Austin and see some of it most famous murals!

13 ●● Take a moonlight Float Trip

McKinney Roughs Nature Park offers monthly moonlight float trips!

Begin the raft trip with a sunset, watch night fall and relax in the cool night air. Enjoy the evening as your raft is gently guided down a moonlit stretch of tranquil river. Bring your own refreshments to enjoy while floating down the river.

14 ●● Take a dance class at Austin Uptown Dance

Take your date and learn a new dance, then go out and use what you learned!

Every 4 weeks, Austin Uptown Dance offers free mini-classes to give new students the opportunity to visit us and discover the joy of learning to dance in a group class environment.

Or try their Walk in Fridy night classes, such as Walk in & Waltz or Walk-in and Two Step and learn new dance steps for $15.

Check their calendar for details.

15 ●● Improvise at the Hideout Theater
Located upstairs from the Hideout Coffeeshop, the Hideout Theater has Improvisation shows Thursday through Saturday night.  Shows last about an hour and half and are sure to keep you and your date night laughing.  Enjoy a sweet treat in the Hideout Cafe afterwards. Or try a Free Improv class on Wednesday nights or Saturday afternoons.  They’ll give you a low-pressure taste of the games, exercises and basic philosophies that they teach in their Level One Class.

Make reservations early, as many of the shows sell out! Tickets range in price from $5 to $15

16 Bring a picnic dinner and take a romantic hike

Not all dates have to cost an arm and a leg.  Head to Central Market or Whole Foods to pick up some fun picnic items and some wine, put them in a backpack, and check out some of the beautiful hikes in Austin.

If it is summer time, pack some bathing suits to beat the heat, and take a moonlight swim.

In cooler times, enjoy the views, without all the crowds!  Some of our favorite hikes are listed here.

17 ●● Go to the theater
There are lots of opportunities to check out a live show in Austin.

Zilker Hillside Theater
If it is summer, one of our favorites! Located on the Hillside across from Barton Springs, every summer, this theater produces a new show.  Pack up a picnic dinner and a blanket, find a good spot on the hill, and watch a show under the stars!  It just doesn't get much better than that!

Zach Scott Theatre
This is Texas' oldest continually operating theater, they are now in their 81st season, so they must be doing something right.

They run different shows on a six week basis.  Watch the show, and then get the chance to mingle with some of the actors afterwards while enjoying drinks in their upstairs lounge.

Check out their webpage to see what is showing now!

18 ●● Rent some bikes and take a ride around Town Lake and check out the bats!

I totally can't wait for the trail around Lady Bird Lake to be finished!  It is going to be so awesome!  A full ten mile loop to complete!  Until then, there are smaller loops you can ride along, or just check out Zilker Park!

There are a couple of places on Barton Springs Road that will rent you a bike, or you can bring your own!

Make sure you stop at Congress Avenue at dusk to check out the bats!

19 ●● Go Bowling at the Goodnight
A great chance for a good night!  There is plenty to keep you busy at the Goodnight.  Home to eight vintage bowling lanes, two semi private lounges, table tennis courts, Billiards tables, an outdoor pet friendly patio and shuffleboard table.  Reservations for bowling and karaoke can be made online and do fill up quickly.

Ages are 18 and up at all times, 21 and up after 9pm

20 ●● Mini golf, fountains and hand dipped custard
Who doesn't love mini golf?

Peter Pan Mini Golf  has been around forever, and it is very old school.  It has had some recent renovation, but fortunately did not lose its old-school feel!  Play nine or eighteen holes after the sun goes down and it isn't quite as hot, depending on your time and interest level.  Peter Pan is BYOB, so bring a cooler to enjoy.

After you're done, head across the street to enjoy the fountains at Butler Park.  In the evenings, colored lights make this fountain especially beautiful.

Finish off the throw-back evening with some hand dipped custard at Sandy's!

21 ●● Enjoy Adult night at Volente Beach

Many weekend nights during the summer, Volente Beach opens its doors at night for the 18 and up crowd.

Enjoy drinks in the pool, water volleyball, live music, or take your date down the water slides!

2015 nights include: May 24, June 13, July 25, Aug 22, Sep 6

Tickets are $12 per person.

22 ●● Laugh the night away at Esther's Follies

Located on Sixth Street, Esther's Follies has been making people laugh for 27 years!  They change the show on a regular basis, so you are always getting the most up-to date in humor :o)

When the show is done, walk over to Pete's Piano Bar with its dueling pianos and you are sure to continue laughing!

Tickets range from $25 to $35, depending on seating.

23 ●● Listen to live music at the park
Bring a blanket, a picnic dinner and a cooler, and watch the sun go down while enjoying some of the music Austin is famous for.

Probably the most well know is Blues on the Green on Wednesday nights and Concerts in the Park on Sunday nights at the Long center, but there are also the Southpark Meadows after dark concert series, Saturday Nights at the Galleria, Music in the Park located in various park arous Austin, Friday nights at Central Market, and KVET Series at Nutty Brown cafe.

24 ●●  Go zip lining

For the more adventurous, head out to the Hill Country for a really great time of ziplining!

We recently went to Lake Travis Zip Line Adventures, but there are a variety around Austin.  Our tour started around 4:30 pm, and we finished around 8pm.

I promise you will laugh and have a great time!  This is a somewhat expensive option, as tours cost around $75 per person.

25 ●●  Play some games

Play shouldn't be reserved just for kids!

If you are looking for a fun time, try heading to one of the following places. During the day, they will be swamped with kids and birthday parties, but in the evening they gear toward an older crowd.

Blazer Tag

Laser tag may seem silly, but it is actually a lot of fun!  And a pretty good work out.  Work together with your date to shoot down the other team.

Main Event
They have a variety of things you can do here.  Bowling, laser tag, pool, rock climbing, midnight mini golf.

Go old school and play some of the video games from your youth!
