● Go Fishing!

Check out my beginner's tips for taking your kids fishing, as well as some great places to take them in Austin!

● Top Teen Hangouts

It can be hard to find places for teens to go, where they can still play and have fun, but not tower over all the toddlers.

So I culled some places from my top 50 list that are especially good for teens and pre-teens.  I hope you enjoy them!

● Spring Break Trip to Big Bend
Looking for a great trip?

Located a short six and a half hour drive from Austin, this is a great place to visit on a long weekend or short week!

We have traveled all over the US on our trips and hit many countries as well, but only last year did we discover the gem in our own back yard!  We saw things we had never seen before.  It was truly amazing and I recommend it for *everyone*!

● Foucault's Pendulum on UT Campus
The pendulum is located in the Development Building on UT Campus -- But not the UT Campus you think of.  This building is located across I-35 from Main Campus. You've probably passed the building a hundred times on the elevated portion of I-35.  On the east side, a brown building with a red cylinder in the middle.  The red tower contains the pendulum - and has since 1985.  Who knew??

Teen Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering can be a great way to teach your kids the importance of giving back to the community. And having a teenager, I now have learned it is also highly rated on college applications ;o)

But it can be somewhat difficult to find places that will allow teens to volunteer. I have reached out to a number of local organizations, and here are some opportunities I have learned about!

● Touring West Texas
We recently took a Spring Break trip to West Texas with my sons' scout troop. A six hour drive from Austin will bring you to a countryside that is not only very beautiful but is also filled with things to do.

Twin Falls and Scultpure Falls Hike

This is my all time top post, with over 13,000 views.  Not surprising that is one of Austin's most popular hikes.

During the summer months, I try and hike this route as often as possible, and provide water updates.  So check here first to see if you should bring a suit or not!

Dinosaur Tracks in Leander

Another top post with over 600 visitors (to the page, not the tracks!) per month.

I really think this is a highlight of Austin, as it is something you can't see in many other places!

● Favorite Board Games
I posted this a long time ago, but it still gets a lot of attention.

Not wanting to go anywhere?  Here are our families Favorite Board Games - for time when we don't want to leave home :o)
