Texas is a beautiful state with a lot of topographical diversity, ranging from the swamps in the east to the desert in the west. Of course, much of this beauty is situated in quiet areas that are located far from crowded cities. However, a lot of it is instead in those metropolitan areas, mainly in the city parks that are found in these cities. Here is a look at a few of the most popular city parks in Texas.
Discovery Green – Houston
Those in Houston can enjoy Discovery Green, which is in the city’s Central Business District. Amongst this 12-acre park’s biggest attractions are its tree-shaded walks, which protection very much appreciated in the summer months by those in this steamy city.
Discovery Green also features the Gateway Fountain and a running trail that surrounds the park. You can even relax on park furniture and watch movies at its Screen on the Green events. Other activities that you can do here include croquet, horseshoes, bocce ball, and fitness classes. If you want to bring your canine friend, it will surely enjoy Discovery Green’s dog fountains and runs.
Klyde Warren Park – Dallas
Conveniently located at the edge of the Dallas Downtown Historic District is Klyde Warren Park. It is highly revered for several reasons, one of which is its impressive variety. Yes, visitors can simply walk through this 5.4-acre urban oasis that has been nicknamed the “Town Square of Dallas,” but they can also do that with their dogs as well as enjoy live music, play board games, and eat at food trucks.
Additionally, if you are visiting this city park on one of Dallas’ famously hot days, you can cool off in its Nancy Best Fountain. Not only that, but this feature is also a visual wonder with its choreographed light and music shows in the evenings.
Pearsall Park – San Antonio
San Antonio also has a point of pride as far as city parks go, as its Pearsall Park has so much to offer those in the Alamo City. Although this one is not quite as centrally located – it is 10 miles southwest of downtown – it is well worth the trip.
Pearsall Park is also quite a large city park at 500 acres, and there is so much to do here. Do you enjoy ziplining? You can do that at this attraction. Does the idea of navigating an obstacle course excite you? Make the trip and enjoy Pearsall Park. This beautiful destination also features more regular fare such as fitness equipment, basketball courts, and a playground to go along with food trucks to help you fuel up for or recover from your fulfilling, activity-filled day.
Memorial Park – El Paso
Those in the western part of the state also have some beautiful parks to enjoy. One is El Paso’s Memorial Park. This recreation area features venues for athletic activities such as softball, tennis, swimming, and walking, as well as a playground, and all of that is amidst its lush grass and trees, especially appreciated features in this desert community.
If you live in Texas or find yourself passing through, try to enjoy nature in one of these lovely city parks.
